Texas Longhorns 2023 Rated Depth Chart

Updated: Aug 30, 2023

I am posting this to the Longhorns group to document what I THINK the Longhorns current depth chart is based on multiple media sources including orangebloods.com, horns247.com, and ourlads.com.

Texas Roster

For my Texas Longhorns rated depth chart tables, I include the player's recruiting or transfer portal rating ("Rec Rat"). I am using the 247 Composite Index. My thought here is that these ratings, in general, reflect the natural talent that player has. Some players develop and others don't.

To this recruiting rating number, I have tried to include a development factor. I add this "development factor" for the number of the games that player has started by this formula:

  • Games Started / 2 / 100

This is meant to account for development and potential. I will work on the formula for this as this is my first pass and clearly, I may need more factors like adders for how the player has performed.

The overall number would be the Recruiting/ Development rating ("R/D Rat").

The Texas Longhorns current roster is to the right.

Folks, I have never asked for money but SEVERAL of you said I should be paid for what I do.'

I am going to be honest with you. There are some articles I do that take a LOT of time. I also PAY to make this site available to you and my renewal charges are due.

Because it takes time and it does cost money, I really would appreciate your support of the work. Here is your opportunity to do that at a nominal cost. This support will help me continue to provide you what I do- objective analysis of your teams. It will also help the site improve and expand our reach.

This is completely VOLUNTARY. If you don't think our work is worthy of financial support, I will accept your non-action feedback humbly.

The details are below and available at Patreon.com. It is VERY easy to sign up.

Texas Depth Chart

Here is what I CURRENTLY think is the first- and second-string depth chart for the Texas Longhorns.

This is fluid and changes maybe daily while the team is in fall camp. The players to watch are in red.

Here is the rest of the roster. Please review and let me know what you think.

Folks I will update this periodically as the season approaches and keep up with the updates on the various websites.

Hopefully, this will be a good resource for you.

A few things I notice:

  1. The Offense is STACKED. Listen to me now and hear me later, the Longhorns passing game will be better than ANYONE is thinking now.

  2. There are reports of position battles at the Guard and Center spots. Neto Umeozulu and DJ Campbell are likely to start by the end of the season.

  3. The Defense is DEEP. Look at the average score for the second unit. It is really close to the first unit. The first unit is very experienced. Expect some of the younger guys on the second unit like Hill and Muhammed and even Williams (listed on the fourth team now) to play more and more as the season progresses.

Tell me what you think of my Texas Longhorns Rated Depth Chart.
